Wow… I don’t really know what to say about all your kind comments about our bedroom, except thank you! I was maybe probably a little bowled over by the niceness, and definitely a lot grateful to Naomi for linking me up to her fabulous readers. All the comments truly made my day a little more bearable, by which I mean I was able to waddle upstairs to decide if I really wanted to buy this hot Ebay number for the baby’s nursery:

What with all the extra vim and vigor I had laying around, I then waddled downstairs and plugged that guy into the Olio Moodboard 3000, and this is what came out:

Yes, uber cool vintage fixture just got boughten. And while I was at it, I snagged those vintage sconces for a song:

Oh so cute with the little stars, but maybe a trifle dangereuse for a baby’s room? What if my little dude turns into a climber and impales himself on those pointy edges? Maybe I should hold out for these dumb Ikea PS sconces which I am convinced will never be released in the US?
Pretty dope, and I like the Bauhausy shape. I do not like that it takes LED lights. I know that’s not very environmentally conscious of me, but uggggghhhhhh. LED is gross.
So anyway, the nursery is humming along except for a few key details.
#1. My chair still isn’t done.
Maybe today? I need to see it in situ before I make any more $$$ decisions.
#2. I am so on the fence about window treatments.
Invest in spendy roman shades and have my MIL trim them in black? Buy some cheapo Ikea linen curtains and trim them in black or maybe royal blue to fill out the wall space?
Because it feels a little blank in there… maybe it’s the rug?
I kept trying to harness the amazingness of this neutral room:

But for whatever reason I am incapable of that kind of subtle layer action. Wendy Schwartz, you are just better than me.
And that brings me to the next key detail that must be addressed:
#3. The Baby.
Hey sucker, when are you coming out? How about July 31? That would give me the weekend to finish up some things, and it would allow you the glory and majesty of having a birthday during the best month of the year…
(full disclosure: my birthday may or may not be tomorrow)
So that’s what’s going on at my house. Thank you for all your positive feedback! You are solely responsible for powering the feeble engine of late stage pregnancy.
Together, we will make it through the finish line.
Well, you know what I mean…

Lookin’ good up in there! I vote for the cheapo window treatment solution, ’cause I’m cheap like that. That and I bet the outcome would be pleasing to the peepers.
I love what you do here! How about blindsgalore designer roman shades, linen texture in new denim? Molly Leutkemeyer recommended them and I think they look great for a good price.
Hey Sarah, I’m actually planning to go with those exact shades if I do romans — although I was thinking cream with black trim. Those shades for my windows would run about $300.
Hmmmm…. denim could be cute. My only reservation would be locking myself into that color story should I want to change things up down the line. I also have a denim rag rug idea on the back burner if the rooms needs more pizzazz.
Anyhow, thanks for the comment! Love Molly L and glad she recommended those shades. I was a little nervous re quality.
Can’t wait to see the final outcome! I find a lot of people are going in the direction of a more chic nursery rather than something that screams BABY. Looks great.
People with July birthdays are the best! (Yeah- mine may have been last week…)
Love the scones! I figure you’ve probably got two years or so before the little fellow becomes a climber so my vote is hang them up! (And relocate further down the line if need be.)
What kind of search terms are you using to find this stuff on ebay? You’re putting my ebaying skills to shame here.
I am impressed with your continuing progress. And I think I would go with the curtains too. They’re so classic, and gosh, $300 sounds like a lot for Roman shades (which I always assumed were cheaper than curtains. Silly me).
“search term” would imply that I am on ebay with a mission, when in fact I simply look at every single item offered.
Not quite, but close…
I am so in awe of this gift of yours: taking colours and textures and styles and always pulling them together perfectly and…well, almost effortlessly!
I never seem to dare, and when I do dare, I’m never sure I should have.
Your bedroom, and this nursery both bowled me over.
(And I’d go with the sconces. Stick a bronze bead over the point when it gets to be a problem. Those Ikea lamps are always available here, but they are really really large, surprisingly so. I would have liked them a bit better if they were more compact.)
As always, you inspire. What about your ball fringe obsession? What about cheap-o curtains trimmed out in black ball fringe? Maybe you can get some (inexpensive but not cheap-looking) roller shades for light control and paper them with some of your wallpaper? Or even just a grasscloth roller shade? Trimmed at the bottom with something cute?
Either way, you’ve got style for days. xoxo
How about the drop cloths as in E’s nursery? I bet your MIL could trim them with black and, since they have the thick backing they block out the light. Just a thought…
Happy Birthday! Maybe it will be a give-birth-day too!
Climber? Will he be Spiderman? Hang those bitches up!
I think white with black trim would be equally delightful as Romans or curtains. Honestly with those high windows you’ve got, I might do curtains to elongate the whole wall situation.
Neutral mood boards aren’t as exciting as neutral rooms. I bet it will look great.
Happy almost birthday!
hang the sconces you bought! but, i do love the ps sconces too. i am starting to doubt my ebay searching ability when i read about your finds! the nursery is going to look amazing when you finish so don’t worry! did you do wallpaper in there too?? can’t keep track! have you looked at jcp romans? i have some & they aren’t bad.
IF baby scales walls, it will be pulling sconces out of the wall by hanging on them that creates a problem, which is equal across sconces and seems impossible for several years….not sure that the statistical improbability that he scales the walls and hits his head on the pointy end of the sconce be considered in lighting decisions.
And if you are still concerned, such head bumping could be an important lesson to stop climbing the wall….
My vote is always Roman blinds. I loves them – clean, simple & gorgeous.
As for le bebe – I hope he doesn’t ruin your birthday! My sisters offspring decided to join the world on her birthday for which is forever about the wee one rather than her. How rude! Lucky the wee one is the cutest thing so that makes up for it!
yes lady..harness that magic neutral nugget of a room.
I LOVE the chandy and sconces- in a major way…also, please make that neutral goodness happen…I know you can:) Mentioned you on the blog today- have been catching up on your blog for days- no idea how but for some reason, it hasn’t been on my reader and I’m not completely obsessed. Also, Happy Birthday!!!!
Ran across this photo after reading your post and thought these canvas dropcloth curtains with wide horizontal navy stripes would look awesome in the nursery:

Made with painter’s tape and fabric paint. Does your MIL love you a whole lot?
