ahoyhoy! that’s me, Karly Hand, there to the left, I’m one half of design crisis and 100% in lurve with all things design. I’m a freelance webdesigner with interior design fantasies. Until someone finally hands me that blank check with which to decorate the entire state of Texas, I look for good finds online and play make-believe-millionaire-house-party. You’re invited, come on, it’s fun! |
| Not enough? Want more? You’re the boss: so, let’s see, I got my BFA from the University of New Mexico about 672 years ago, with an emphasis in sculpture. I mixed metals with textiles and had a grand old time until they gave me a degree and told me to go on about my business. So, I moved to Austin, met the ladies of what would become the Austin Craft Mafia and started that sucker up. The ACM ladies and myself went on to produce a fashion and craft fair, Stitch, as well as host our own TV show on the DIY network, Stylelicious. When I wasn’t being crafty I taught myself webdesign, which is how I bring home the bacon today. Whilst laying out graphics and plugging in code I daydream about my new favorite sofa and what color to restain the porch. When I’m not typing up a storm over here, I’m spreading the trend gospel with Jen Perkins on our blog, badassical. Oh, I also have a husband named mattypants, and 2 cats (laser: cute and magnus: fat) and a dog, rowdy. We just bought our first house and it’s time to decorate our little hearts out. |

There I am, Erin Williamson, the other half of Design Crisis. I have been working in the arts for most of my life, so I decided to keep on going all the way through college. I have a BA in literature with a minor in photography and an MFA in photography. Although I have shown my personal work at galleries from coast to coast, making a (any) living as an artist is hard, so I made my fortune teaching photography for four years at the University of Hawaii, Eastside College Prep School in East Palo Alto, and San Jose City College, before retiring on my mountain of cash — because, you know, teachers are so highly paid. |
| Although living for eight years in Hawaii and northern California was lovely, I always longed to return to Texas, my native state. When not writing for Design Crisis or making my own art , I am teaching at a program for underserved kids, gardening despite the ridiculous Texas heat, whipping up a little something something in the kitchen for my wonderful hunny bunny, obsessively rearranging my messy mid century home, and forcing the above mentioned hunny bunny to repaint, rewire, and redo the entire home. Most pressingly, I really need this blog to help manage my obnoxious craigslist and thrift store addictions, although I’ll be happy to serve as a support group leader for those of you with similar habits. |
