I’ve decided to replace my sofa. The couch I have now is pretty cute but for every point it gets in style it looses 12 for comfort. I’m not in a huge rush (would love to have one sometime this summer) but don’t want to drag this out by looking at every couch on the planet.

I had originally thought I would get the Petrie from crate and barrel, but with a $1600 price tag I’m a bit gun shy. Erin and I went to Macy’s yesterday where we test drove the $699(!!!!) Corona sofa but I found it was only $699 worth of comfort and I left with my back cracking. Literally.

As soon as we got back to Erin’s she forced the laptop on me and pointed me directly to CB2 (You remember Erin’s documented shopping problem, yes?) It was then that I remembered this beauty:

At $999 the Bolla is $1 under my dream budget and thus, totally fair game. The only problem? The closest CB2 is eight million and sixty four miles away. This is where YOU come in.

Ok, who has seen this sofa in person? Or, dare I ask, sat on it? My husband and I are both tall. Like serious tall not like pretend tall (I’m 6′ he’s 6’4″). I get that we won’t be able to lay across it, that’s fine, I have this daybed in the same room for lounging. I want a nice, deep, comfy seat that’s not too hard and not too soft. TELL ME EVERYTHING YOU KNOW.

Also, if you own this, how does it wear? I want to know all the practical details

Or, if you work for CB2, tell me about shipping returns if I get it and it makes me want to puke.

xoxo forever!

Great looking sofa, just not sure about the price or the quality.

All I know is I love it.

If it had come in white, clotted cream, or pale mushroom, it would be sitting in my living room at this very moment.

Then you would have flown up to test drive it, and we would have spent the weekend going to every consignment, vintage, and thrift store in the greater Denver area looking for things to accessorize it.

And then…wait…what are we talking about?

I wish I knew something about this gorgeous hunk of upholstery, but alas, Austin appears to be very far from the center of the furniture universe.

I do know that clotted cream sounds delicious.

Ok, and as much as I love this, I am a bit afraid it might be too small for you guys…

You should check out BoConcept here in Austin. You can have a custom couch made for around the same price and similar style. My friend just had one made for her new house and it is comfort maximus. I think it was around $1K. Hope this helps!

That is very cute. However: I am about to order a love seat from this place (love seat linked) and I have heard only good things about them. Perhaps you will find something you love there? CB2′s furniture seems fall-aparty to me, but I have only seen it in person once.

  6. I can only recommend sofas from Bolia, but I don’t know if you can get them online…

Don’t disregard the Corona yet! My cousin Roberta has purchased it twice (once for her old apartment and again when she moved to Portland last year). It really becomes much more comfy the longer you use it. I think it took her about a month to break it in. It looks and wears great for the price.

I’VE SEEN IT (and sat on it) IN PERSON!!

It’s great, get it, you’ll love it. The fabric is everything you’re hoping it is. I actually would’ve bought it for my apartment if it were a little smaller.

CB2 sofas tend to feel a little firmer than you want when they’re brand new, but they ease up a bit after a couple of weeks.

Now, I am not a tall person. I’m 5’6″, and my husband is 5’7″, so I’m not sure that the two of us test-driving this sofa together is really all that helpful in terms of spreading-out-ness. Perhaps you could call CB2 and get the measurements of the sitting area inside of the back/arm cushions?

Love it, but we have no CB2 in Atlanta so I’ve never lounged upon it. Great lines, great look.

    1. I bought the Corona from Macy’s and replaced the cushions with down-wrapped ones I bought online for about $100. LOOOOVEE IT! So comfy now.

    2. I live in NYC and will be happy to check out the sofa at CB2 for you! Hang tight, pigeon!

  11. I cant believe you can by a sofa that seems decent for that price in the states. Is it including fabric? Is the fabric decent or synthetic nasty?
Down here I wouldnt go near a sofa under $2k for the frame + fabric – wholesale.

  12. rebecca says:

Sorry to be contrary, but I own two Coronas (sofa and loveseat) and they, for lack of a better phrase, suck balls. I have an older Mitchell Gold I bought ten years ago or so as well and it is more comfortable, more nicely made, etc etc etc. No clue about the CB2 (it’s cute though!) just a warning about the Corona.

so weird that you are posting about this sofa because i just stopped into the crate&barrel outlet by my house yesterday and this sofa was there. i sat on it quickly because i didn’t need a sofa but it caught my eye. if i would have read this before my trip to the store i would have paid more attention. i liked the fabric and it was firm, but that’s sometimes good because it softens after awhile. good luck

  14. karly says:

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone!!! Rebecca, your input on the corona is priceless!

Rex, you are the sweetest thing on the planet!

After a few days of thinking about it, I’m not sure I can bring myself to buy a couch I haven’t sat on, i do have my eye on another one I tried on Friday which I’ll reveal this week

  15. RexNYC says:

I checked it out this weekend. I’ll call it the Momma Bear couch — not hard, not too soft, pretty much in the middle.

Now I’m looking at my Corona couch and I’m noticing the puckering of the fabric and unevenness of the welting — after only 2 months! Grrrrr. I guess you really do get what you pay for. But it was so tough to find something in my budget with that look. Oh well :-(
