It’s the Monday before Thanksgiving and I know what’s on your collective mind: turkey and giblets. You were daydreaming about giblets, right? Because I really sense a giblet zeitgeist sweeping the nation… no? Well, I have been known to be wrong. Occasionally. Anyway, I should be preparing for the annual Thanksgiving trek, which will be made exponentially more interesting this year by the presence of a certain 4 month old someone during the six hour drive to Texarkana, but instead I have Black Friday on the brain. It’s not that I believe sales are more important than family, it’s just that I’m still on a decorating kick and I stumbled onto something I want, and damned if I’m paying full price for it (because I’m broke). Also, if you were trying to decide what to buy me for Christmas, here you go:

I know! It’s so… normal. So reasonable at $68. So very much not a bedazzled reindeer skull. But this colorblock rug from Urban Outfitters represents a little slice of inspiration for me. I think I want to redo my bedroom. You know — the bedroom I’ve never showed you because it’s so two years ago. I could keep most of my furniture in my fantasy redo, but I’m going to need a new headboard and linens. And a new rug. Me likey this one. It feels kinda Bauhaus to me. But I need it to go on sale because that other stuff ain’t gonna be free, and you know I just redid the dining room, and when The Hunny reads this he is going to KILLKILLKILL.
I digress. Sort of. You see, after I found this rug, I started looking at UO’s other offerings, and you know — they have some good stuff.

Like these pillows. I’ll take the top one, and maybe if Karly is nice, she’ll get the bottom one for a Christmas present. I’m a very giving person.

I would also like to give myself this origami quilt. I’m a bit concerned about the flowery underside, but I think overall it would do a swell job covering the futon in my office.

I could give this bench to Ike for his room, because I’m sure it tops every four month old’s Christmas list.

I tell you, The Hunny has just been slavering over this cotton Rorschach rug a la Andy Warhol, and who am I to deny his dreams? Of course, I wouldn’t put it on the floor. It would make a much better wall hanging or upholstery material.

I’m sure there’s someone out there who really needs this Rya style shag rug, but no one’s going to buy a 4×6 rug for $198, Urban Outfitters. Put that baby on sale!

I am really digging the arty prints and finishes on lots of UO’s home goods. I wouldn’t be mad if someone gave me this paint splatter vase.

However, I am wondering what you dudes think about this Painter’s Chair, so called because it’s covered in… paint. It’s $298. Thoughts?

And, ok, I know it’s not related to interiors, but I had to show you UO’s Booty Buddy Blanket. THAT IS A SNUGGIE. And yet I find it repulsively compelling…. This confirms my suspicion that Snuggies might actually be awesome if they came in nicer prints.
While I’m busy twiddling my thumbs waiting for some of this stuff to go on sale, you might want to head over and check out the home goods UO already has on sale, like Alexander Girard quilts for DIRT CHEAP (if you like that sort of thing), good deals on kilim rugs, and cute lamps. It’s never to early to start Christmas shopping. For yourself. I mean for others.

I want a bedazzled reindeer skull for Xmas… (faux, of caux)
I have long been intrigued by the homewares on the UO website … I always wonder what the quality is like. Some of their stuff looks pretty rad.
And that blanket looks like what would happen if Lindsay Thornburg was hired by Snuggie. Or Slanket. It’s kind of wrong, but terribly appealing. I just worry that if I had a blanket I could wear, I would totally be lost the world and never leave home again.
I have Karly’s pillow on my wish list but no place for it.
My beef with UO is that their fabulous rugs are too small. I understand they’re meant for dorms and first apartments, but could they try a few 8×10s? Pretty please?
As for that painted chair – I think the UO home buyers sometimes secretly wish they had sister chain Anthopologie’s open-to-buy.
P.S. What you do think of the round peacock rug in the new colors, red and black?
HG, have I got the post for you!

Stephanie, I was actually thinking of you when I wrote this post — did you check out the looms? I have no idea about the quality, but I did remember that you were shopping around for one, and they’re on sale. Also, I’m including a link to Thornburg for our readers. I am crushing on those capes!

Raina, I love the black and white version — the red is a bit bright for my palette, but nice nonetheless. I totally agree that UO NEEDS TO MAKE BIGGER RUGS. I was considering sewing a few of the colorblock rugs together. What do you think? Too janky?
Not at all janky. Do it with rawhide leather in big whipstitches and I’ll make out with you on my next visit to Austin.
DONE!
ha ha, i actually almost bought myself that pillow but then didn’t for some reason… I can’t remember. But it’s nice to know that you know EXACTLY what I would buy myself.
Also, I think you should get Ike the bench. This is the last Christmas for the rest of your life that you’re going to be able to get away with buying stuff for yourself instead of him. Get him another giraffe and a onsie and call it a day, you little missy, get the bench.
Also, i recently saw a comedian who pointed out that a snuggie is nothing more than a backwards bathrobe. I think it’s worth considering.
The Brick House did a post about how much she hated that painter’s chair:
http://trickmybrick.blogspot.com/2009/11/nnnnnnnnooooooooooo.html
I agree with her. I kind of like the color block pillows though.
I don’t need anything either, but now that you present these goodies… I usually cannot stand splatter anything. Ick. But, that painters chair is too fabulous. I want it badly. And I’m not even put off by the price. Love it! And, the bench for Ike? Absolutely! You’d simply be investing in his design aesthetic and education! Every good mom MUST do that!
OMG that bench needs to get out of my dreams and into my car…or, you know, my hallway.
Also, those pillows are like the best interpretation of a cosby sweater. I love them.
I forgot to mention that that Booty Slanket or whatever it’s called is really making me worry that Bajas are going to come back in style. Ugh.
Great picks, most especially the rugs. Must agree, please supersize them UO! And the SNUGGIE…strangely, scarily appealing. But at 5′1 I would look like I was eaten alive! ;0)
That wannabe snuggie thing is freaking me out. Not only am I offended by the “snugginess,” I am also offended by its resemblance to a poncho. Yet, I am intrigued. At least if I wore that to a bar crawl it’d make for an interesting conversation piece.
Ohhh. Urban. (and your stupid bitchy sister Anthro) How I love to dislike thee… I try not to patronize either chain (for personal, bitter ex-employee reasons) but I do cyber-stalk them and keep up with their wares. I have noticed that Urban housewares quality has gone up considerably in the past few years… I mean, at least their bedding is not a poly-cotton blend anymore.. their tapestries are always great source for yardage for sewing projects, and some of their home collaborations have been interesting (Blu Dot, Tugboat Press, Girard etc.)
Now you got me looking… and I can’t help myself… I am filling up a cart right now.
Damn them and their cheap sale prices!!
UO has some good stuff and some prices that i can stomach. thank god for that! and i love the quilt. not so much the flowery side of it, tho!
hope you and your little one are doing fine! i hear things get a little easier after the 3 month mark, and i hope that is true for you!
thanks for the girard tip!
