Hello hello, blog buddies! I am back from the brink of certain death by bubonic infection, and baby Ike is feeling much better, as well. Along with heaping doses of Oprah, Supernanny, and baby Tylenol, your well wishes and kind words healed our sickness. It’s a miracle! Or maybe my resurrection is the result of these hot rooms that have my blood a’ pumping, because you know what — the gloss is boss.

Yesss, paired with deep, dark paint, a glossy finish adds depth and — dare I say — an element of mystery?

A super high gloss finish like the one in this room by Miles Redd is like hot lingerie for your walls, and you don’t want to force your walls to wear granny panties, do you?

No granny panties here, just sleek sophistication. But make sure to smooth out walls before painting, because a glossy sheen reveals imperfections and no one wants to see that orange peel cellulite on your wall.

Why not spread the shine to the ceiling, while you’re at it?

SR Gambrel
And although black looks fabulously fresh in a high gloss finish, a whole rainbow of dark hues could work beautifully.

Dark and glossy is grown up sexy, but use it sparingly. Much like makeup, you don’t want too much shiny, or you risk looking trashy.

Although a shiny finish does make for easy cleanup.

I like the simple things in life…like shiny walls. That first AT bathroom is SO sesssy! Glad you’re feeling better.

I have always wanted to do this but am deathly fearful of screwing it up. Kinda like when you’re painting your last toenail, about to achieve the perfect pedicure, and your bathrobe drops onto your foot.
So glad to hear everyone is feeling better!

I’m so glad that you and sweet baby boy Ike are on the mend. Only thing worse than a sick bebe is a sick mama and bebe. Hugs and kisses to you both!
As for the rooms. I have to stop and catch my breath. Wowza!

The last one, Madonna Inn? Heehee!
When I was about 14, I did my first ever ‘real’ ‘decorating’ as in we took the wood panelling down in my bedroom… what colour did I choose to paint the new drywall? Glossy teal…
Let me tell you, I was glad we moved away a year later…

BTW I really should do this more personably, but I wasn’t around when the Ike came into the world, and just want to give a belated happy happy cheer cheer… can only imagine how much fun you’re having with him (when not ill… eeps!) Glad you feel better!

Whoops (hello triple comment by WPZ, just like the old days) I meant to google personably to check what it really meant, and not really the right word at all, but never mind… ok, leaving post now… ><

Orange Peel Cellulite? Brilliant! If we can start getting people to refer to that nasty texture as cellulite, maybe it will finally go away.
BTW, thank you for making me reconsider my entire home. I want a glossy wall now!!! (but will heed WPZ’s tale of caution)

There’s something that intrigues me about the SR Gambrel red room. That weird wall light? I don’t know… I like the red and the wood, I suppose. Hmm.

I’ve never considered a glossy wall before. These make me ask why not? Glad you and Ikey are better!

These are lovely and I want them all.
They also are making me really thirsty.

Love the floss + gloss. But this kid shouldn’t try it at home — worried that wall prep underneath would have to be perfect because every imperfection would show. And since I do the prepping and painting, we know it would be a slap-ass job. So glad both you and Ike are feeling better. Keep mending!

Im not all aboard on the glossie wall. Im wondering if they look as good in the real as they do in the pics?

I think it’s probably not so easy to achieve this look, but I AM IN LOVE.
Down with wall cellulite!

that yellow glossy ceiling is SO F-ING COOL.
granny pantie walls? i am laughing hysterically and also trying not to feel insecure about the shot elastic, the scalloped top, and the covered navel of my all matte/eggshell finishes…
Glad you are feeling better!- I had the death cold last week- (on day three I posted “lost my will to live” on facebook) I can’t imagine being that sick and having a sick baby. Hats off to mommies!

I’m with Alison, and seem to be having a disturbingly oral response to these walls. It’s not the first time; last year while working on a bathroom project I made the tactical error of telling my coworkers that I had an irresistible urge to put the shiny mosaic tiles in my mouth. They REALLY looked like tasty candy.
So glad you and Ike the Tyke are feeling better!

I’m glad that you and Ike are recovering.
As for the shiny walls, I’m not convinced. Which is odd, because lacquer furniture (especially red lacquer) has been a longstanding obsession.
That last picture is so hilarious. That bedspread looks like it could stand on its own accord and lift off like a lid.

Sorry you and the babes weren’t feeling well. I’ll bet he laughed at the granny panties joke.
