I am possessed by the urge to paint EVERYTHING.

Ceilings.

Floors.

Woodwork.

Chairs.

Paintings.

Kitchen cabinets.

Kitchen cabinets.

Kitchen cabinets.

I’ve visited Benjamin Moore so frequently of late that Sanders is probably wondering if he should set up a cot for me.

Yesterday when I went to the high risk doc, I frantically interrogated him about the possibility of harming the baby from SO MUCH PAINTING. I mean, I use the fancy low VOC Aura paint, but still… there are nights I go to bed with paint in my hair. And under my nails. And who knows where else — I can’t see down there anymore.

He said not to worry one bit, to paint away.

So in case you were wondering, our little peanut probably will probably come out with only two eyes and sans vestigial tail.

Although extra parts could come in handy someday?

Gotta peruse some paint chips. See y’alluns later.

  1. i’m with ya, sister. again, i need multiple houses so i can get crazy in multiple places instead of overdoing one.

your babe is going to come out a paint genius for sure!!

i feel a painting frenzy coming on right now & was calmed a little by painting my mom’s kitchen walls this past weekend. i have been obsessing over what color(s) to paint your cabinets (weird?!) and can’t wait to see what you pick. i’m thinking some kind of gray or navy, yep, i’m super helpful like that. loved jenny’s idea of ripping the upper cabinets out & doing open shelving. too much for your pregnant self to contemplate?

  3. erin says:

I would love to rip out the uppers and put in shelves, but there are two problems with this idea.

    1) The stuff in the cupboards is ugly.

    2) It would require a lot of drywalling, trim fixing/matching/staining, and custom shelf mounting.

I just don’t know if I can handle it, but I’ll confer with my handy half.

    Loving that moody gray kitchen.

Can you bottle that frenzy and let me have a swig or two? I can’t seem to build to motivation to paint one bedroom or even make one trip to Benjamin Moore. I think I overdid it with the DIYs in 2011 and now 2012 I’m just plain lazy.

  5. Naomi says:

Oh and It does NOT make sense to rip out the uppers until you do the full kitchen reno. Us commenters are just getting excited and not being realistic about a quickie paint re-do.

  6. the misfit says:

Those are some beautiful painted cabinets. I get really excited at the idea of painted things, too, but fortunately the prospect of ACTUALLY painting gives me some degree of pause. So although once in a while I have new paint cans for more than one project, generally there is only one in the hopper at a time. (And right now, the vintage stove that the plumbers are installing today WHILE I AM NOT THERE – PLEASE, GOD, LET IT WORK AND BE SAFE – is taking up ALL my emotional energy.) But as soon as that stove is in, I’m going to start itching to paint cabinets. Or my laundry room, if I haven’t got hold of any cabinets yet.

Have fun, but paint responsibly, and all that :) .

  7. Erica says:

I do not care for the look of open shelving in a kitchen, even when things are all matchy and tidy (and let’s face it, whose shelves really look like that?) and the actual fact of the matter is that everything gets covered in dust. That’s why they invented cabinet doors.

Maybe if you slip the doctor 20 bucks he’ll write you a note saying you can’t do anything and the hubby has to paint while you flip through magazines.

  8. Becky says:

What about some sheets of plexiglass cut to size to put over the backsplash because it is an ugly one lets face it, you could put wallpaper under the plexiglass, or any kind of cool decorative paper, like marble paper or something, or even white paper. Or what about getting some nice thin plywood that has a cool grain to it and putting it over the backsplash, you could stain it or just leave it with a nice poly finish….or some white formica cut to size to stick up there onto the existing backsplash. Then you could go crazy with painting those cabinets, paint them any color you want!!!!! Ahh I am going insane with ideas!Don’t worry about your countertops, they will fade away if you have some awesome colors going on in there. Do something crazy, I see all the photos that inspire you and they are always crazy so just do it.

  9. Becky says:

Oh yeah and you guys could pour your own concrete countertops, they would probably turn out a little rustic but that is cool! It is not super hard, we have done it and there is a ton of info out there for doing yourself. You could totally transform that kitchen low budge and like it, imagine that.

  10. Laura says:

When I was nearing the end of my pregnancy, I had an irresistible urge to CLEAN everything. I mean, I was scrubbing baseboards. It’s a nesting thing I guess. Painting is better I think – the improvement is a lot more obvious.

  11. I love how people are paying more attention to the ceiling!!! Rarely has the ceiling been the focal point of a space! These images are GORGE!!!!

  12. The pink ceiling in the first pic is pretty cool…hmm…when did I start liking massive amounts of color??!

  13. Tara says:

What color is the paint in the kitchen…charcoal/blue? Would love to know!
