Ahhhh, Monday — it’s like a vacation from the weekend. Seriously, I am burnt. Toasted. Saturday we frantically ran errands and car shopped all day (not fun). Sunday we painted until I thought I might die (also not fun). And for all that back breaking work, there was little sad little fruit of our difficult labors. We still have no car (anyone have a Rav4 and like it?), and I hate the paint I picked for the guest bedroom/office — it looks like a band aid factory exploded onto a porn set. But we did get two things accomplished:
1) Cinco de Mayo.
I thought I had a bitchin video of Ike doing the Macarena with some awesome Mexican lady dancers, but apparently in my pregnant fugue state I forgot to press record. FAIL. Still, Cinco de Mayo was pretty fun (although margaritas would have made it funner).
2) Matt ripped out the ugly built in desk and we painted the kitchen.
Matt did SUCH AN AMAZING job removing the old built in behemoth and replacing the tiles underneath. You would never know it was ever there. Meanwhile, I got tired of painting swatches and decided to just pick something and go for it.
Y’all are going to think I swallowed a Guatemalan insanity pepper. Here’s a hint:

Kinda kidding. Kinda not.
We will discuss tomorrow. Have your wits sharpened and pencils prepared.

My parents have a Rav4 and love it, so much so that my aunt/uncle and grandparents have bought them… they are very practical cars. I’m just not a very practical person so I have an FJ.
can’t wait to see the kitchen! that harmony color definitely looks like a bandaid on my computer! good luck with the car search! wish i had some advice for you.
Two things:
#1 “…it looks like a band aid factory exploded onto a porn set.” nearly made my stitches come undone.
#2: Ike’s signature look should be a black sombrero. That child OWNS it.
I have a 3 year old Rav4 (so the current models are still the same design as mine) and while I still deeply mourn the departure of my beloved old old style Odyssey (which was fairly small and had regular rear doors, not sliders), the Rav 4 is… ok. However, I’d probably like it a lot if my previous car hadn’t been so fabu.
All that being said, the Rav 4 is dependable, reasonably comfortable, practicle and good on gas. I would caution you to get the mid or higher level model, though, unlike me. I was so pissed at the uber-annoying car salesman who wasted vast amounts of my time* that I bought the lowest (ie. cheapest) model ’cause I couldn’t bear to give him one more dime than necessary, but now I regret that stubborness everyday; I’m old and I need power seats and other such luxuries!
*seriously dudes, I walk into a dealership with cash in hand and ask for a list of every Rav4 on the lot, and I will make my decision accordingly. Easy-peasy. It should take 15 minutes, not FOUR HOURS to get the info out of you.
PINK!!! Yes, love it.
I went to BM on Sunday to pick up pink samples and they were closed. Bitches.
Harmony is suburban tract home beige. Bleck. It was not a Sanders pick… what was I thinking?!
And yes, the dinette is PINK. Well, orangey pink. It kind of goes from terracotta to bubblegum. It makes me laugh.
Thanks to all for your advice on the car! We’re going to have two carseats and two very messy little people, so we need something utilitarian. However, mama needs power. So if we do the Rav I’m getting the V6. We also looked at the Subaru Foresters, but since our Suby wrx blew a head gasket and the turbo with only 55k miles on it, I’m a little skeered.
Wow that sucks! I bought a little Subuaru Justy right out of high school and that thing still runs like a champ…my Dad had one for 20+ years too. Good luck with the car sit. it’s never a fun one. DYING to see your kitchen!!
I have a 2012 Forester and I LOVE it. Great to drive, easy to get in and out of, and just generally a good cross between fun and gets-the-job done. I did decide to go with leather seats and the climate package, which pretty much make the car for me.
Oh, one other note — I went to the Georgetown dealership instead of the one down south, to which I give the major side-eye. The Georgetown one is a little out of the way, but so much better. Plus: Awesome warranty/maintenance deals right now!
The Rav 4 is rad! We have two big dogs and I toted them around for the last year in my 1998 rav. I ultimately sold it because I found it a little squirrelly on the snowy/icy roads in southeast Alaska. I certainly recommend it and the newer ones are way nicer!
You made me laugh so hard! My pencil is as sharp as an ice pick lol
you better not be kidding.
We got a Rav 4 last year after two miserable years of Volvo ownership, and love it. Totally reliable (which is pretty much all you want after bad car experiences).
Of course we’re in New Zealand, so possibly need different things in a car!
