I’ve been seeing a lot of painted ceilings lately:

Ooohhhh ahhhh, pretty!
But I tell you dudes what: I would think long and hard before I did something like this. We just painted a ton of ceilings in our house, because the stupid previous owners decided that the fugly khaki green beige on the walls would look just as smashing on the ceilings. And I guess it does — if by “smashing” you mean “like the inside of a butt.”
After seeing the difference a coat of light, neutral paint makes, I don’t think I’ll be painting any ceilings dark or dramatic colors unless they are A) at least 10 feet tall, B) in rooms with lots of light, or C) in dark rooms where you want the ceiling to merge with the wall — thus reducing contrast and enlarging the space.
I have none of those things going on at my house, therefore me and my bucket of Simply White shall continue to do battle with the exorcist vomit spewed all over our ceilings.
But maybe I’m wrong. Have you ever gone wild on the ceiling? Was it a good thing?
Later, taters. The lovely inlaws have Ike so I plan to tackle tons o’ work today.

I love the graphics on the floor & I love that someone finally looked up!! The ceiling gets ignored so often, its nice to see it get some attention!!!
I luuuuuuuuv painted ceilings and think they look nekked when they’re white. I have painted (or papered — THAT’s a chore) every ceiling in my house. My kitchen ceiling is black.
BTW — speaking of kitchens, I see AT telling us that “Bi-Colored Kitchen Cabinets” are a growing trend: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/bi-color-kitchen-cabinets-170539
I actually do have a few painted ceilings in my home (dining room out of necessity, bedroom, and basement), but the majority of our living space has lily white ceilings. I guess I should care more about ceilings, but I have to admit they’re often an after-thought for me. I’m not sure I could go bold and lacquered though (especially since real lacquer cost way more than a house note apparently – so I’ve heard).
I do not, nor will I ever have this kind of drive. Though I appreciate the results of more determined efforts!
Sometimes ceilings look cool painted when there is a lot of ceiling height in the room, but to be honest….I’m too lazy to paint them haha. Repainting regular walls is simple, repainting a ceiling color mistake is not
The picture with the yellow ceiling is really cool though
This post is crazily timed for me because we have painters coming tomorrow to basically cover everything in our house in a nice, clean coat of Simply White! Also, I’m working on turning our office into a nursery (for twins, actually…lord help me), and we’re doing a mustard-y yellow ceiling in there, along with the Simply White. Crossing my fingers that it works!
i give major side eye to dark painted ceilings. to me it feels like the sky is falling in on you.
esp that red one on top. i have to poop on this idea.
