Hi, how was your weekend? Mine was one of those bust-your-ass-but-accomplish-very-little affairs. At least, that’s how me and my sore tailbone are feeling this morning (wtf, pregnant ladies?! what is happening to my coccyx?). Sucks to have so much to do and to be so impaired lazy. I did manage to squeeze in two chocolate covered donuts… yay for me!

So, what’s really going on at Casa Erin? Let’s discuss some life decisions I’ve come up with (thanks to Karly and Naomi for listening to my whiny pleas for advice).

#1. Wallpaper has been selected.

Pheasant in Coral will go in the upstairs hallway, Neisha Crosland’s Zebra will go in the entry, and Pines by Little Greene will go in the powder room. It was really tough to decide where these should go architecturally speaking — e.g., which rooms should be dark or light, what needs small scale or large, what colors will the rooms adjacent to the papered rooms be painted, etc. So I’m very excited to have a (tentative) decision.

#2. The front room will now be a play room instead of an office.

We’re going to squeeze the office into the guest bedroom, and I’m pretty stoked that we don’t have to put doors on this room anymore. Yipppeeeeee! I’m STILL trying to sell the coffee table, the shelves will get painted, art has been moved, sconces may be installed, leopard rug will make an appearance, and on the opposing wall I think I’m going to buy a vintage deco armoire to house all the toys. Like so:

Or something like this. These come up on craigslist all the time for dirt cheap.

#3. With Sanders‘ help, I am close to deciding on paint colors for most of the rooms in my house.

MOST. Not all. Ike’s room is mostly nailed down, I’m very close on baby room, I have a good start for the bedroom, and maybe I have an idea for the dinette… oh, the dinette.

#4. We sold our good old table (to a blog reader who recognized our house on craigslist!!!) because it was way too big for our new house, and then bought another… ok table.

First, let’s say goodbye to old table. She was a beauty.

Oh, table. I loved you so much. But she’s gone, (she’s gone) oh I’d pay the devil to replace her…

She’s gone.

Thank you, Hall and Oates, for providing the soundtrack to my misery.

And now, drumroll please:

Someone kill me.

We will discuss this travesty in full tomorrow, but I just don’t have the energy right now.

In fact, I think I may need another donut just so I can survive today.

  1. The wallpaper selections are stupid fly. I’ve been shopping for an armoire/wardrobe for our master for decades (errr…months). They do NOT show up dirt cheap on KC craigers. I’m afraid estate sales are going to be my best option here. Doesn’t help that I’m snooty and want it cheap, beautiful, and with mirrored (or mirror-able) doors. Your old dining room still kills me every time. Ridiculously awesome. I would miss that table, too!! And I know you’ll be able to funk that new one up with badass chairs, no problem. Is it bad that I kind of like it?

  2. Laura says:

But new art over the mantle I see! Looks good.

  3. erin says:

Hey Laura, yes I switched some things around… living room may undergo a major shakeup. Stay tuned!

Tobe, the table itself isn’t bad — can’t decide whether I should paint it and what type of chairs to get. Mostly I HATE the floors (will get redone down the road, but it will probably be a year or two) and the wall color hurts my sensitive eyes. Oh! And that light fixture. Dear lord.

  4. Barchbo says:

I LOVE the wallpaper – all of it! Totally gorgeous.

From one pregnant lady to another: my tailbone is fine, but my pelvic bone is usually screaming in agony by the end of the day. I think it’s from toting my 1 year old + general activity. You have my empathy, girl. And I hear donuts have medicinal properties so I say go for it.

  5. Okay first up the tailbone sitch….did you sit on the floor for extended periods of time? I sat on the floor sorting baby clothes for an hour yesterday and could hardly walk afterwards. Ugh!

Wallpaper selections are GORGEOUS! Love where you decided to put each one too. I’m jealous…I want a moody powder room too!

Playroom idea is genius and that table while not as BA as the old on isn’t that bad. Once your done with that space it’ll be awesome I’m sure and knowing you the chairs will be super modern and look fab with a more traditional table! Can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve for the rest of the house!!

  6. Naomi says:

yay for selections! Ike got pinned down? I didnt even add my 3 cents yet!!! ;) Just kidding, I know you can make excellent selections on your own.

As for the table- re: paint or no paint… what will the chairs be? And I contend that your tile is less fugilicious than my tile.

  7. erin says:

His wall color was on the mockup I posted, so you got your 3 cents in — you know I can’t decide anything without you right now ;)

Chairs will depend on the table (black? or natural?). Here’s a link to some possible chairs I have pinned right now:

And a sneak peek at a very preliminary mockup for the dinette. Not sure I want to fork out so much dough for the chairs, though.

The wallpaper choices leave me speechless. Truly, just stupendous. As for your breakfast area, how about going dark on the walls. Your living room is so beautifully bright and open, I like the idea of making this spot an inviting, moody gem. Your dining table got me thinking about Susie’s beautiful dining room. Her walls are an amazing, rich mushroom color, a beautiful cherry table takes center stage and she has the most fabulous, huge gold chandelier. DRAMA!

Here’s a link to some older photos. She’s since replaced the painting with a bold, colorful Michelle Armas original and has beautiful simple linen curtains on the windows. Ask her for a recent snapshot. It really is breathtaking.

  9. erin says:

Nelya, Susie’s home and your home are tied for the place I want to live in most. Gorgeous.

Susie definitely has a dining room though, whereas my space is just a teeny tiny dinette. You may be right about dark paint — we don’t get a lot of light through those windows because they look out onto a covered patio. Still, afraid dark color may cut up the space too much… what to do?!

    More mockups, of course ;)

  10. nkp says:

Yes, her’s is definitely a dining room, but you would be surprised how large it feels despite the dark walls. So warm and inviting and her home is an older ranch. The ceilings are not especially high and the room is not large, but it is really a gem. As for her house, yes, it’s definitely at the tippy top of my wish list, as well. It is just so, so beautiful in person. You’re so sweet to add mine to the list, but it’s a wreck…hence the always, very selective, photography. I aspire to your thoughtful planning. Mine is just a mishmash of stuff I love.

  11. nkp says:

Oh, p.s.- I haven’t been pregnant in ages and I still remember the awful tailbone pain. I couldn’t sit through a movie without constant, painful shifting. No fun.

  12. ROK says:

Seriously–no leopards? Or even some chinoiserie cranes? I was sure you were headed towards animal life. I’m expecting a full post re: hanging. Are you seriously doing it yourself? Fun fact–spell check wants to change chinoiserie to trichinosis. Lovely.

Do you have thoughts on metallic paints…since we’ve celebrated your accomplishments by bringing up random new projects, but any way….that is where my Home Depot treck this weekend left me. Half of vegetable garden and a pile of Martha chips.

    Oh, and yes, jealous much.

  13. Sabrina says:

Love that Pines wallpaper, and wallpaper can usually go screw itself as far as I’m concerned.

  14. erin says:

Glad you guys like the wallpaper! I really had an eye towards longevity and architectural definition when choosing, thus the marked lack of leopards and chinoiserie (although pines was inspired by vintage kimonos).

I feel pretty solid on the beige zebra and pines in the powder, the coral marble paper is the only one that I feel iffy about at all, mostly because the color is so girly. Don’t worry, I got the lowdown on properly priming the wall from sanders, so hopefully it won’t be too bad if/when I decide to strip this stuff someday…

  15. dwr says:

Trust yourself on the coral marble, it is absolutely stunning. Dying to see it finished.

  16. Rosie says:

Yay to the playroom. Great idea. Will the upstairs office function as an office/guest room? I dig the new table. Its ovalosity is just right. I especially love the Pines paper, and your Craig’s List posting is more well-written and jaunty than a Craig’s List posting ever is. EVER.

  17. humdrum says:

Oh, I am so jealous of the leopard rug. I tried to buy one, make that two, from the big O. The first one was delivered wet along one edge and moldy. Overstock was quick to send a replacement. That one was wet and moldy in the middle. I thought I would give them one more chance, but nope it was out of stock. I’m heartbroken. I loved how it looked (but certainly not how it smelled) in my hallway.

  18. Celine says:

OMG. I feel like such a creeper for having recognized your house from a craiglist ad. Ha! But thank you for selling me your table! She is definitely a kickass beauty! I promise to love her and take care of her, and you may have eternal visitation rights should you wish. :) Also, your wallpaper choices are divine. I especially love the pines wallpaper.

  19. anita says:

omg – how did i miss this post?
first; i can’t tell you how much i love the wallpaper selections.
second; i’m so glad you addressed the light fixture in your comments. :)
i love your mock-up. for what it’s worth, i too, would paint the table black.
