I need a rudder to steer me through the coming week of energetic Ike plus no school, no grandparents, and bedrest — it’s going to be a long one. What better distraction than wallpaper? And of course it doesn’t hurt that I’ve become something of an amateur expert (not a pardox, I swear) on the subject via long hours of obsessively trolling the internet in search of “The One.” We’ll discuss that very important matter later on in Wallpaper Week, but for today let’s talk House of Hackney.

They had me at the mirror image adverts, but I like the crazy romance of the patterns, too. Wild Card is a fabulous interpretation of Madame Castaing’s famous leopard prints, Dalton Rose has an ombre bottom, and Empire is cheeky good fun.

I’m a little smitten with the Empire prints for a mini gentleman’s room. I would probably only do it on on one wall and frame it out with molding, then paint coordinating color on the other walls — because that’s a lot of look.

Any favorites? That leopard print is sure to make an appearance in someone’s powder room, right?

Does the ombre one come in a different colour pallet? It’s my favourite but not sure about the blue with your teal walls.

  2. Yes, I can definitely use that Wild Card somewhere. Can’t resist the siren song of leopard. And I just went back and read your last five posts (seriously been out of the blog loop). So sorry you’re still having issues. Here’s to hoping all is well with you soon. Looking at pretty wallpaper always helps, right? And I told you you were becoming a de facto wallpaper expert!

I think the Empire Stripe is adorable.

  4. I knew that looked familiar!!

LOVE it! I did a nursery board for Chassity @ Look Linger Love when she was pregnant with her little guy and used that wallpaper…..so cool for a boys nursery!!

Katie, I had no idea Anthro carried that paper… Some “expert” I am. And I would love to see your nursery board — sounds awesome!

Jessica, although I like the idea of the dalton paper I don’t think I could commit to a floral wallpaper. Someone else should, though!

I am 100% on board with the one wall of lovely wallpaper as an accent idea. My method has been to match a color from the paper (the main background color – I’m not that adventuresome, I guess, but I DID teach myself to hang wallpaper!). So this is a long way of saying that while I LOVE “Flights of Fancy,” I loathe beige, so I’m not sure I would be able to use it because of the color I would have to paint the other three walls. In a hypothetical universe in which I was helping (read: dictating) with someone else’s home decor, and that someone INSISTED on beige, and I didn’t quit helping on the spot, then I would definitely push for that print. Because it’s awesome.

Hey misfit, it comes in a French blue, too… Check it out.

  8. Oh I’m sure you are an expert! I just happen to stumble upon that paper at Anthro and to be honest never even looked at who made it! Shame on me!!
Here’s the link for that board: http://katiewaddell.blogspot.com/2011/08/nursery-for-look-linger-love.html

Ooh, I’m excited for wallpaper week. Empire Stripe is delightful, like a trippy Wind in the Willows.

  10. Rosie says:

I vote for Flights of Fancy! Whimsical for days…

  11. Jordan says:

I would like to wallpaper myself in the Wild Card. That just screams HAPPY DAY! to me.

  12. Naomi says:

The animal ones make me happy. So are you thinking kids rooms now? What happened to the foyer? Focus, Erin, focus! I kid, I kid…

  13. Why do I love Empire Stripe so much? If I look too close, the animals look stoned and totally freak me out, but the graphic layering is — ready for it? — awesome.

  14. I just love the wallpaper you used in this post. Great selections!! Wallpaper makes great accents… Thanks for Wallpaper Week.
