Happy Turkey Day, everyone! If you’re reading this post, it’s probably late at night and your bellies are full of stuffing and tryptophan. I’m going to keep it short since I’m in Texarkana visiting family, but I thought I would post some pictures from Thanksgiving last year, and you all can just imagine that I’m doing pretty much the same thing today.

bunkhouse

This is the bunkhouse at our farm, where we have Thanksgiving every year. Can you see where my design inspiration comes from?

tree

Our farm is about 450 acres of pecan trees. And cows. And some lakes. And a beach on the Red River. Except for the cows (and their patties) and the bird-sized mosquitoes, it’s heaven on earth.

shed

Tractors and ATVs live in here. Yee haw!

chainsaws

Someone always has a new toy to play with, most of which make my Mamaw very nervous. But cuttin’ stuff is fun.

shootin stuff

So is shootin’ stuff.

gun

When it’s too dark to shoot anymore, it’s time to go home.

So what did you do today and where did you do it? Were there any exciting drunken family escapades? Please feel free to describe them in detail. I’m nothing if not nosy.

It’s nearly midnight Thursday here in KiwiLand, and it passed without incident. I’d totally forgotten about T-Day as a matter of fact.

In the spirit of the holiday, I did take a three-hour nap this morning.

The Pea and I had a mother-daughter evening out with fine dining at McDonald’s (and some crying over spilt milk) and a little shopping spree. Pea got two new pairs of shoes and a Fisher-Price “Gotta Go” doll to aid in potty training.

Try not to throw up, Karly.

I’m kinda pissed that the Hispanic version of the doll only speaks Spanish because her coloring is closer to Pea’s than the Caucasian doll. Wait, did I just hijack this thread with inane chatter about my toddler’s new doll?

Sorry about that. I hope everyone has a great time today and that the in-laws behave themselves!

  2. Don’t put an eye out. :-)

    Happy day.

Raina, that comment was the best design-crisis blog post of the week!

    Happy shootin, Erin!

  4. Just another work day here – saved the world again from yet another ugly house, shuffled paper around pretending to myself that the paper trail is done for now, listened to clients whine about stuff and nonsense, visited suppliers to look at gorgeous fabrics and things thinking eye candy would lift my grumpy mood (um, seems not!)
Now a new day – so press repeat!
Oh man – im looking forward to my Summer break! -Best I plan something for that pronto. Oh actually DC laydiez – My fella and i are thinking about heading to Austin in March for a trade fair that is about both design & computer stuffs (read -tax deductable jaunt for both of us!) Would you recommend Texas as having lots to explore?

    Thanks, and welcome, Andrea!

Hi everyone else… have been too busy eating casserole and watching tv to check in. Raina, sounds like you need to start a better doll company. Or teach the Pea to speak Spanish ;)

Camilla, I would totally recommend Austin, because Karly and I will be there!

Off to eat some more pie.

Camilla: what is the show in March? Is it SXSW?

    Yes!! Come visit.

And, Erin, to answer your question, for my thanksgiving, I didn’t write a blog post. hooray!

    HI Ladies!!
Happy late Thanksgiving to you all.

My Thanksgiving was filled with the two F words I love and hate at the same time. Flight & Food. I Love flights because they always land me somewhere else, but I hate them because they are cramped and uncomfortable. I love food because it’s so delicious, but I hate it because it makes me fat. ( A word i only hate unless we are talking about Fat in a PHAT kinda way)

The first part of my day I spent flying over many countries & states starting somewhere between Uruguay and Brazil and landing in SFO!! I even had a layover in Houston and thought about calling Erin to let her know we were in the same state but thought 7am was a bit wee early. I practice the whole do unto your neighbors as you would have them do unto you- when it comes to early morning phone calls. :_0 It was a long trip home. I ended up FAT!
I have details on my blog (www.marianamaya.blosgpost) about my flight if you want to read a leg by leg version. As well as details about my Meat eating habits.

ps– my favorite image above is the gun shooting one!!

  10. Yeah Im talkin about South by South West. Though i think we have left next years a lil too late to organi$e -as we are also thinking about going to Vegas for some computer nerd conference for my fella later in the year -which I will tag along too & some how make tax deductible too!!?! No way im letting him looooose in Vegas without me!!!- Ive heard the stories! So prob go to SXSW in 2010 instead!

  11. I thought SXSW was just a music festival … it’s a trade show? I totally want to come for the music though…

I threw up on Thanksgiving. But I had fun before the blackout!

  12. erin says:

Mari, I really hope you aren’t planning to do that crazy cayenne pepper diet cleanse thing that almost killed you last time. Sounds like you had an awesome trip, though! I am totally envious.

  13. erin says:

    Camilla, Vegas over Austin? What???!

And WPZ, SXSW is a music festival that started out as a forum for music producers to check out hot new bands. I guess that’s kind of like a trade show? There aren’t any cheesy cubicles or booths set up, though. It’s all music and booze all the time. You should come!

  14. Mariana says:

Erin. I thought about it! But no i’m just going to do my work out hardcore and eat helthy (Um sorta- i love my carbs!)

  15. Cortnie says:
