Last weekend Karly and I went to Round Top — the most ginormous antiques fair EVER. Since I’ll be updating the blog later today with a (hopefully) witty riposte on Top Design, I thought I’d post some photos of the fair along with a few of my fabulous finds to tide you over. Karly went back for seconds today, so I’m sure she’ll be blogging about her own glorious adventures very soon.
The fair held many delights, and also more than a few scary items. Take these ladies, for example:

One of the best stores was The Old West Shop, but the prices were pretty steep. Who knew you could buy a carved wooden horse with real human teeth, though?

Another horse (this time atop a giant lamp post) — one of the recurring motifs of the day:

Gypsies Antiques from Austin had a great booth with some amazing vintage lucite chandeliers and bathroom fixtures:

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw these vintage industrial pull-down and scissor lamps. HOTNESS!

Many animals roamed the grounds freely. This panther really wanted to come home with me, but I think my spoiled little kitty princess would be insanely jealous.

A few booths had some great African art, and Karly wanted to steal these beaded chairs, but she couldn’t fit them into her purse.

I thought this drum base would have made a cool end table if topped by a piece of glass.

All in all, we had a great day, and both of us indulged in out favorite pastimes.

Of course, the best part was the treasure trove we dragged home. Meet my new young buck, Brian. The store proprietor marked him at $15, but gave him to me for $10.

I already have enough chairs and lamps to open a vintage furnishings store, but I couldn’t resist this pair of hoop chairs for $15 each.

All together now:

Honestly I bought the chairs for my patio because they’re weatherproof nylon, but if I could figure out a way to paint them black, I might be inclined to keep them inside… Anyone have an idea?

Holy, holy …
Ok. That does it. I am planning a mega-field trip with a truck next year. I *need* some giant animal statuary in my life. Although I am a little afraid of the giant rabbits. They are menacing.
Those chairs are pretty boss – I think you should be able to find some kind of Krylon spray paint that would work – this one is for plastic and PVC: http://www.krylon.com/products/fusion_for_plastic/.
wow wow WOW – so many great finds! You know I love looking through these. Finally updated my blog love list and added you!
Geez, thanks Please Sir! I know we share the antiques hunting love!
And Stephanie, you would have loved the fair. There were a ton of animals, including this huge sexy panther that was way out of my budget. You need to come on down for a little field trip next spring…
ps, thanks for the spray paint link. I’m going to check it out pronto.
I am LOVING these shots of your living room… the pic of me with the horse, however, not so much. What lesson have I learned today? Just because it’s a flea market doesn’t mean I should skip the makeup
Karly, you don’t even need makeup to look stunning, sillypants. And sunglasses are better than makeup.
That loopy chandelier… heeah hoo ack. *clearing my throat* Just the most beautiful thing ever. And those African chairs rock so hard they must have come from Cleveland.
Voice of dissent, I like the hoop chairs as they are. But if you paint them black, Austin still stays on the list.
There’s a chandelier just like it on Ebay right now…
And the chairs are cutish as they are, but they’re kind of stained. Also, if I keep them inside I have to paint them because my dining room is red. I could paint them red? Or black? Or gold? Or I could keep them outside — unpainted — to ensure Austin stays on the list.
Damn – you really scored! I don’t have any advice for painting the chairs but I love them inside and Brian is fantastic!
P.S. I love your front door1 – we have one that’s similar with the X on the bottom but couldn’t find one with the diamond shaped glass panes.
P.P.S. The 1 was supposed to be a !
Thanks, Cortnie! We love our doors, too, but the diamond panes make them a bleeping pain to paint.
Loved this post – I like the out and about shopping with you guys feeling it evokes. I could almost taste the post-spree corona. Love your new kicking up his heels deer. and love the drum as an end table idea.
Dear antique fairs of america,
Please come my way. Especially if you will bring animal trinkets, as adorable as these. If you want, you can bring karly and erin along as well.
Thanks in advance,
Dawn
Hi Dawn! I love your blog! Thanks for stopping by!
And wouldn’t it be awesome if we could have a giant blogger convention at an antique fair? It would be like a swarm of locusts descending upon grain fields. In a good way.
Sherri, you must come!
I. Am. So. In. Love. With. Deer. Your deer, not deer in general, but THAT DEER is amazing! And the shot you took of it is so great too, the first one…
I too like the hoop chairs as is. I really want hoop chairs someday, when I have a yard or a bigger house! (no room for more major furniture here…)
BTW, I cannot believe you somehow managed to score that deer and Karly did not… I know you both love animal things, but he is GOLD.
We both wanted it, but Karly felt sorry for my empty bag and gave him up for adoption.
Spray paint is a miracle worker… i LOVE your rug with those circular chairs!! totally drool worthy.
please do not paint these chairs, the colours are beautiful! plus i love the blog x
